Scientists were surprised to find this Pinocchio lizard in the wild cloud forest in Ecuador.
Recently, scientists were surprised to discover that the Pinocchio lizard that was believed to be extinct 50 years ago has suddenly appeared in the wild cloud forest in Ecuador.
According to scientists, the species of lizard with the scientific name Pinocchio Anole was discovered in 1953 but was not seen again around 1960-2005.
On a trip to study lizards at night, when most other animals are sleeping and the lizard’s color becomes lighter, less common, researcher Alejandro Arteaga and his colleagues discovered that Pinocchio Anole was clinging to a small tree branch. The team photographed and watched it overnight to understand its natural habitat.
According to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, the Pinocchio Anole is an endangered species found in only four places around the world. Arguably Pinocchio Anole has the smallest range of any other lizard in the world.
The trunk of the lizard is a special feature that helps him choose the most suitable companion. Experts say this finding is extremely valuable as it will give researchers new information about this unique “nose” animal.
