Mother hen spreads her wings to protect her chicks in the rain

As the mother hen uses her wings as a shield to protect her young from the heavy rains in Indian streets, many people are affected.

A scene of a mother hen standing in the middle of a street in Visakhapatnam, India, spreading her wings to let the chicks hide below was recorded by a passerby, Viral Hog reported yesterday. At least 5 young chickens huddled against the mother’s body as the rain washed over her.

Despite the rain and the wind, the mother hen seems very resistant to the rain as she decides to stay still in the middle of the road instead of running for shelter. “I shot this video in a local fish market. When heavy rains come, you can feel motherhood in nature. The mother hen protects her young in the rain,” said the cameraman.

The touching video is widely shared, attracting over 50,000 likes on social media. “It’s cute, I just wish the owners of the chickens covered them up,” one account commented.

End of the incubation period (about 21 days), the eggs hatch. The hen stays in the nest about two days after the first eggs hatch. Meanwhile, newly hatched chickens live off nutrients obtained from the part of the egg yolk that they absorb when they are about to hatch.

The hen then leaves the nest, leaving the eggs that cannot hatch. Newly hatched chicks are protected by the mother and are kept warm when needed. The mother hen leads the chicks to find food and water. He will call the baby when he finds something edible, but will rarely feed the chicks directly. The mother continues to care for the chicks until they are a few weeks old, after which time she will lose interest and start laying new eggs.
