Albino peacocks have broken into people’s homes to find companions

The albino peacock frightened the whole village as it crawled through the British garden in a desperate attempt to find a mate.

Named Bertie, the white peacock has mistaken many people for a ghost wandering the village of Handcross in West Sussex, England, Fox News reported today. Albino peacocks are very rare. White peacocks can be born with leucism.

Rose Botting, a 55-year-old local resident, first met Bertie as she rioted on the street, jumped on the roof and scared many of them last year. She encountered the peacock again when he returned to the village after exactly one year to find a mate. He was sitting on the roofs of many residents and looking out the windows.

Bertie was unlucky as there were no peacocks in or around the village. Because the bird refused to leave, Rose was forced to find the peacock’s cry on the internet to get Bertie’s attention. “I played the entire recording which lasted three minutes and 22 seconds. As I was walking down the street, Bertie jumped off the roof and started following me, ”Rose recalls.

Shortly after, Bertie parted the tail trying to attract a mate. He even jumped on Rose’s roof. Concerned for the bird’s safety, Rose continued to play recordings of the cry, while keeping the dogs in the barn so they wouldn’t eat Bertie. She also contacted Bertie’s owner, Jo Wilding, to come and pick her up.

After several spread tails, Bertie left Rose’s rooftop. Finally, Jo can bring Bertie back and send Rose a photo so she knows the bird is healthy. “Bertie loves to travel and is very curious. Bertie is single, so he stayed here because he wanted to,” explained Jo.
