Compared to many other species of mantis, the ghost mantis is a small mantis with an ugly shape and color.
They only reach about 45 to 50mm in length. They vary in brown color from dark brown (almost black) to greenish gray. The color of an individual varies with different spores and is also dependent on light levels and humidity.
