Fishermen caught super rare yellow lobsters

Fishermen from Tenants Harbor, Maine, United States, donated a rare golden lobster to the Center for Marine Science at the University of New England in the town of Biddeford.

Marley Babb, a fisherman from Tenants Harbor, caught this rare golden lobster, the University of New England said in a press release.

In the statement, the University of New England also said the shrimp was called Banana, The Press Herald reported on 2/4.

Ms. Babb contacted the Maine Department of Marine Resources to report the discovery and donation of the shrimp. The fisherman received a response from an agency employee named Jessica Waller – who is leading a lobster research project with Dr. Markus Frederich of the University of New England.

Ms Waller contacted Mr Frederich to ask if the University of New England at Biddeford City would like to keep the golden shrimp and arrange for the shrimp to be transported there.

The New England Aquarium says wild yellow shell lobsters are extremely rare. The chance of encountering such a shrimp is approximately one in 30 million.

The National Science Foundation has awarded a grant of $ 860,000 to the University of New England, the Maine Department of Marine Resources, the Bigelow Laboratory of Ocean Science and Hood College in Maryland.

The grant aims to study the effects of warm water in the Bay of Maine on lobster larvae and their ability to develop into adulthood.
