Tips for eating pineapple fruit without worrying about the tongue

Pineapple has a sweet and sour taste. This way, your tongue won’t hurt every time you eat the pineapple.

Why eat pineapple tongue?

Pineapple (some places call it pineapple) is a fruit familiar to Vietnamese. Pineapple can be used straight, in smoothies or stir-fries. This fruit has a sweet and sour taste which is quite easy to eat. However, eating a lot of pineapple will cause burning of the tongue, discomfort in the mouth. Eating too much will cause bleeding from the tongue, cheeks or lips. After you stop eating pineapple, these symptoms should go away on their own without any treatment.

The cause of a burning tongue is that pineapples contain bromelain – a mixture of digestive enzymes that is beneficial in treating inflammation. Bromelain is commonly found in the core and skin of pineapple. Despite its health benefits, it can cause painful areas of sensitive skin like the lining of the mouth.

How to reduce burnt tongue while eating pineapple

When eating pineapples, in addition to peeling the skin, removing the eyes, you need to cut the core. The kernel, although edible, contains a lot of bromelain, causing irritation to the tongue when eaten.

In addition, you need to soak the peeled pineapple in diluted salt water for about 10 minutes. Salt water will inhibit protein-breaking enzymes in pineapples, preventing us from burning our tongues while eating. It will also help prevent the pineapple from turning brown.

Washing pineapple with lightly salted water and frying and cooking also helps reduce pineapple allergy. It works for the elderly, young children, people with food sensitivities or allergies.

Some notes while eating pineapple
Should buy fresh pineapple, whole fruit, not crushed. Ripe pineapple has a characteristic aroma, the skin turns yellow. If the fruit is still green, turn the pineapple upside down, leaving the tips of the leaves on the counter for a few days. The pineapple will ripen slowly and turn yellow or orange.

Pineapple peels should remove all skin and eyes.

People at risk of nosebleeds, dengue fever, women suffering from bleeding should not eat pineapple.

Do not eat pineapple on an empty stomach as the organic acids and bromelain in pineapples can have a strong impact on the stomach lining, causing irritation.
