The snake of the green snake family has difficulty moving with two ends on the same body, a condition caused by the embryo not fully divided.
Agkistrodon contortrix, a species in the green snake family, with a special shape was discovered in the backyard of a house in Woodbridge, Virginia, USA, Fox News reported. A video about the snake was posted to social media by Virginia Wildlife Authority (VWMC) on September 17 and has attracted more than 65,000 views with 1,100 shares.
Some people have doubts about the authenticity of the video. However, VWMC insists the video is completely real. “This is certainly not wrong. We guarantee the snake is real and peels off the skin,” said a representative from VWMC.
Bipedal snakes are rare and generally don’t survive long in the wild, according to National Geographic. This condition can make hunting difficult for them. Snakes are highly dependent on scent, and if one end smells of prey on the other, it will likely attack and try to swallow the head. The cause of the snake has two extremities similar to Siamese twins, when the embryo does not completely separate.
