Heartbreaking images of young polar bears fighting over plastic trash cans show man’s terrifying impact on the environment.
The Mirror newspaper just published Daniel Sullivan’s photos of polar bears and plastic waste in Alaska. These bears are very hungry because they cannot hunt seals until the ice has formed.
Mr Sullivan took photos of a cub with its head stuck in a bottle, two other cubs reaching for a piece of plastic and another gnawing at a piece of plastic wrap.
These show the effects of plastic waste pollution and climate change on wildlife, the 58-year-old photographer from Los Angeles said. He took these photos in Katovik.
“These photos were taken in early October,” he said. At that time, years ago, the whole area was covered with a layer of ice 1.5 meters thick.
“The weather is 5 degrees warmer than last year, so the ice forms at the end of the month instead of the beginning of the month as usual,” Sullivan added. It will surely have an effect on them “.
“The appearance of the plastic bottle in Alaska shows that what we are doing affects the whole world,” he said. “My wife and I cannot interfere with the activities of the cubs because the mother bear is nearby.”
