Mountain goats stood on the steep wall of the dam to lick the salt

The goats appear to be a challenge to the death as they stand tall and strong on the nearly 90-degree cliffs, 50 meters high to satisfy their cravings for salt.

Federica Grassi, a retired banker, took a series of photos capturing the moment mountain goats in the Alps lick salt and other minerals off the wall of the Cingino Dam in northern Italy, reported yesterday Sun. This species of goat typically lives on steep rocky terrain at elevations of up to 4,600 m. In the photo, they show no fear in front of the steep wall and even sneak around to find a good location.

According to Grassi, around 15 to 25 goats stood tall and firm on the dam at the same time while the rest rested at the base of the dam. The dam was around 50m high and local people reported that the dam wall had a slope of almost 90 degrees, almost vertical. Goats can climb this way thanks to rubber pads and split hooves that help them maintain their balance. They continually lick rocks to eat salt.

“It was interesting to see them down below a few feet from where I was standing. They seemed to defy gravity and compete for the best position with their horns. The keeper at the nearby mountain hut told me. sees every day. “The goats are addicted to this particular mineral salt because there are a lot of other dams in the Alps, but he only sees mountain goats at the Cingino dam,” Grassi said.
