On 7/7, mining company Gem Rostec found four large emeralds valued at $ 40,000 at the Mariinsky mine in the Sverdlovsk region.
According to Rostec, stones are detected at the same time on the conveyor belt during the sorting process. Each tablet weighs 1–1.5 kg and is estimated to be worth $ 7,000–11,000.
The quality of the four stones is also appreciated. They are beautifully shaped, dark green in color and of good quality. “This is the first time that such a large volume of emeralds of such quality has been unearthed in Mariinsky in the past 20 years,” said Kirill Fedorov, CEO of Rostec.
The specimens have now been sent to the Gokhran agency of the Russian Federal Fund for Gems and Metals for inspection and evaluation before being sold in the market.
It was not until the first half of 2020 that the Rostec group reported the discovery of 6 large emeralds. This is more than in 2019 and more than double that of 2018.
“This result is due to the evolution of the company’s ore grinding technology, as part of a new development strategy. We have adjusted the setting of the splitting device, increasing the size of clear stones. while preserving their natural form as a raw material ”, explains Fedorov.
Besides emeralds, the Mariinsky mine also contains many valuable minerals such as beryl, chrysoberyl, phenakite, alexandrite, phlogopite, lithium, rubidium and cesium. Each year around 150 kg of emerald, 15 kg of alexandrite and more than 5 tons of beryl are unearthed here.
