Albino hummingbirds appear in America

Scenes of an extremely rare albino hummingbird appearing in the state of Alabama have attracted millions of views on social media sites.

Cordova, Alabama resident Deborah Aldridge last week spotted a rare albino hummingbird relaxing in her backyard. The white-haired animal appeared, along with a number of other hummingbirds, flying freely back and forth between the feeders in Aldridge’s presence.

The rare show Aldridge recorded and posted on social media quickly caused a fever when many people shared and re-posted. The post on the ABC 33/40 Facebook page alone attracted nearly 2.6 million views in one week.

Albino hummingbirds can easily be confused with leucistic hummingbirds because they have the same color of feathers. However, according to experts at Hummingbird Central, with pink eyes, beak and paws, the white hummingbird seen in Alabama is definitely an albino individual. They are rare in the wild with only 18 discovered since last year.
