Can the fish cry?

Fish can also yawn, cough, and even burp. But they are not choking.

According to retired marine biologist Steve Webster of Monterey Bay, crying is an emotional reflex unique to large-brained mammals.

According to him, people are “aware, able to remember things of the past, to plan for the future and to incorporate many other complex cognitive behaviors”.

“Fish don’t have a cortex – which makes us different – so I doubt the information can cry,” Webster told LiveScience.

“They certainly cannot shed tears because their eyes are still in an environment filled with water.”
