The mysterious duck takes American social networks by storm

The Lone Duck stands out in New York Central Park, enticing photographers and pedestrians alike.

The male Aix galericulata duck rose to fame in New York, United States, after appearing in Central Park, according to the BBC on November 2. The eye-catching coat quickly gained him great popularity on social media.

The first on the lovebird was shared by the Manhattan Bird Alert Bird Watch Association on Twitter on October 10. According to Manhattan Bird Alert, he usurped the wood duck to become “the most beautiful duck in the park.” The lovebird is hard to confuse with its purple fur, pink beak, and orange tail feathers. Since then, images of it have appeared in more than 19,200 posts with the hashtag #MandarinDuck.

Being native to East Asia and parts of Europe, the lovebird has sparked much speculation about its origin. Many reviews focus on the little tag attached to the duck’s leg and wonder if it escaped from the local zoo. But the Central Park Zoo, which also has a lovebird, says the animal swimming in the pool is not theirs.

Manhattan Bird Alert suggests the lovebird may be a private pet. However, keeping ducks as pets is prohibited in New York City.
