The large tree that grows on Kalaloch Beach in Olympic National Park in Washington, USA is called the “tree of life” because of the way it sustains life with its roots exposed.
According to Amusing Planet, the location of the tree was near the Kalaloch campsite, on an eroded cliff wall just below the tree stump. The tree pivots on the ground with only a few roots, while the rest grows bare and radiates out into space.
Although there is no soil to provide nutrients underneath, the plants still grow green leaves in the spring and are not uprooted after heavy storms have passed.
The large tree belongs to the Sitka spruce family. Although it does not have an official name, the tree has many nicknames such as “tree of life” or “tree of life”. The cave hollowed out under the tree is formed by a small stream which erodes the layer of soil.
