Stephen Hawking may have been too worried: no aliens will come to Earth

A recent study denied the possibility that Stephen Hawking warned that aliens would invade Earth like whites did in America.

Stephen Hawking – the genius of theoretical physics just warned aliens that it would be bad if we approach them.

Specifically, he said letting aliens reach Earth would be no different when Columbus sets foot in the Americas. Obviously, this event is not a good ending for Native Americans, and Hawking believes the same will happen if aliens come here.

What would aliens do if they knew us?

Specifically, Hawking argued that even if we were to catch an alien signal, we should not respond, as that would mean paving the way for them to reach our planet.

However, according to a recent study from Switzerland, it seems Hawking has overthought it. As a result, we will never meet them, just because the stranger is also … absent when the signal is received.

Specifically, studies so far all assume that distant civilizations will use radio signals to broadcast messages. Radio waves can travel at almost the speed of light – about 186,000 miles / s, or over 299,000 km / s.

Although it seems very fast, in fact, judging by the scale of the space, the speed is extremely slow. Our Milky Way alone is over 100,000 light years. Assuming humans send out a radio signal, then in an 80-year human lifespan that signal will travel only 0.001% of the length of the galaxy.

At such a speed, communication is impossible, given the historical assumption that no civilization can last more than 100,000 years.

“If a civilization transmits signals from one end of the galaxy, then when the signal hits here, the whole civilization is gone” – said Dr Claudio Grimaldi, author of the study at the Ecole Polytechnique Research Institute ( Swiss).

The study uses the Drake Equation – a mathematical formula given by astronomer Frank Drake in 1961. Using a few variables, the model can estimate the number of potential civilizations in the galaxy.

Factors such as star formation, number of star-planet systems, number of habitable planets … are all included in the calculation model.

“We have created a very simple model of the galaxy, including its incidence and how long a civilization can survive.”

“Signals reaching Earth can come from civilizations too far away, which are long gone. When they existed, the signals did not arrive in time.

Experts from SETI (Research Group for Intelligence Outside the Earth) are currently researching a network of cameras on a global scale. This would allow them to capture an alien signal in an extremely short period of time, just under 1 thousand seconds.

However, many experts also agree that it will be difficult to find aliens. As of 2016, Professor Brian Cox believes that the rate of development of science and technology in all civilizations may lead to the possibility of their self-destruction.

Technology, for example, allows the production of energy, but increases the amount of greenhouse gases in an impossible way. Or nuclear weapons, weapons of mass destruction … are capable of destroying a civilization after only a few thousand years of development. Even humanity is unlikely to depart from this rule.

But overall, SETI still hopes, people who believe in aliens still hope. It’s just that the possibility that Stephen Hawking warned won’t come true.
