The turtle with two rare syndromes simultaneously is valued at nearly $ 32,000, but it’s hard to find buyers because it may not live long.
Nop, an albino double-headed turtle named the Red-eared Turtle, was born on a farm in Bangkok, Thailand on March 3. The turtle’s current owner, Noon Ausanee, put it on an appraisal and breeding experts estimate the Nop to be worth $ 31,500. Potential buyers are concerned, however, that the turtle will not live long.
“I felt very lucky when the turtle was born. Now the turtle is two months old and still healthy. We feed her every day and she still eats it. I think she will live a long life and will return good fortune for whoever possesses it, ”says Ausanee.
The red-eared turtle is a species of pond turtle popular around the world. Double-headed turtles due to polycephaly malformation are very rare and bipedal albino turtles are even rarer. Experts recommend against releasing these turtles into the wild, as they are difficult to survive on their own and easily inherit genetic mutations.
A similar turtle was discovered on a beach in Florida, United States, two years ago. According to data from the US Marine Turtle Conservation Service, the odds of a baby turtle occurring after hatching is extremely low, with only one in 1,000 babies surviving to adulthood.
