Close up of Mars in the middle of the Ice Age

The previous black and white image showed a smoother arctic surface. In the new image, the avalanche revealed very special layers of sediment and ice. According to studies, Mars is currently in the middle of the ice age.

Combined with evidence from the Mars Curiosity rover collected during the 2013 geological survey, scientists believe that the arctic ice and snow here is purely a source of water. Even fine materials in seemingly arid regions contain 2% water by weight. Water on Mars is considered drinkable.

Studies show that the water on Mars was looser than the Arctic Ocean. However, over the past 3.7 billion years, Mars has lost 87% of its water. This is why, in the middle of the Ice Age, only a relatively small amount of ice can still be seen in the Pole.

Unfortunately, the geological survey of the planet by the Mars Curiosity rover has now lost contact with Earth when a dust storm that has surrounded the planet since May blocked sunlight – which this robot uses for power. Before disappearing, this robot probe found evidence that Mars could have existed 3 billion years ago.
