1943 – 1944: Two professors from the University of Pennsylvania, John Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert, build the Electronic Digital Calculator and Integrator (ENIAC). 1964: Douglas Engelbart presents the prototype of a modern computer, with a mouse and a graphical user interface (GUI). This marked the evolution of the computer from a machine dedicated to scientists and mathematicians to a technology more accessible to the general public.

1964: The same year the IBM System / 360 was introduced, it was the first computer to control the full range of applications, from small to large, from commercial to scientific. 1969: A team of developers from Bell Labs builds UNIX, an operating system that resolves compatibility issues.
