The phenomenon of the purple dye in the American sky

The snow and lights of a medical marijuana farm spin the skies in Snowflake Town, Arizona, deep purple.

Cara Smith witnessed the bizarre phenomenon on her way to the Copperstate Farm at around 6:30 a.m. on January 10 local time. “The farm always had purple lights on, but the light wasn’t lighting up the sky like that. It rained snow that morning, and it was very cloudy and foggy, ”Smith said.

Smith captured the scene and posted it on his personal Facebook, which was then shared by the Navajo County community site. Authorities say this particular color was created by the ultraviolet lights used to grow cannabis at Copperstate Farm. Reflected light on the snowy background around the farm, illuminating the clouds above.

Copperstate Farm is Arizona’s largest supplier of medical cannabis. The farm has many greenhouses over an area of over 16 hectares. Currently around 70 types of cannabis are grown here with 40 more expected to be added.

Purple skies have been recorded elsewhere in the United States in recent times for various reasons. In September, the skies turned purple in Florida after Typhoon Dorian swept through the area. Experts explain this due to the fact that the sunlight at sunset is scattered by a thunderstorm cloud during a storm.
