3 “super moon”, 1 “blood moon” and 1 “blue moon” in 2021

The year 2021 promises to bring a lot of inspiration to astronomy enthusiasts when there are 3 “super moons”, 1 “blood moon” and 1 “blue moon”.

“Supermoon” is the phenomenon of the full moon in the position on the orbit closest to Earth. At this point, people on Earth will see that the Moon is bigger and brighter than usual.

In 2021, there will be 3 “super moon” events. The first super moon appeared on April 27, named “Super Pink Moon”. However, the Moon will not be as pink as the name suggests. The reason it is credited with pink is that there is a pink flower that blooms on a full moon in April.

One month later, May 26 will welcome the 2nd super moon of the year and will coincide with the time of the total lunar eclipse. The Moon will turn orange red in about 15 minutes, known as the “blood moon” phenomenon. Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, will have the opportunity to admire this rare phenomenon of “super blood moon”.

The last super moon of the year falls on June 24. This super moon is just as special when it takes place just 3 days after the summer solstice. Not only that, it’s also the lowest full moon in the sky this year.

In 2021 will also welcome 1 “blue moon”. It’s not really blue, but it’s just a name for a rare phenomenon. Usually, the blue moon refers to the second full moon of the same calendar month. However, farm workers also define a seasonal blue moon.

Each season of the year usually has 3 full moons, but sometimes there will be 1 season with up to 4 full moons. At this time, the third full moon of the season will also be called the blue moon. The two types of blue moon mentioned above unfold in a 7 times / 19 year cycle.

The Blue Moon of 2021 is a seasonal blue moon, which occurs on August 22. This is the third full moon in summer 2021 (June 21 to September 22).
